BLISS and SAMBAL

Balmer Lawrie & Co Ltd has introduced two flagship CSR programs, BLISS and SAMBAL, aimed at fostering sustainable development and improving the quality of life in various communities.

BLISS (Balmer Lawrie Initiative for Self-Sustenance)

The BLISS program is designed to empower individuals by promoting self-sufficiency through skill development and education.

Education

One Teacher School (Ekal Vidyalaya): The Company extends support to The Friends of Tribals Society known as EKAL Vidyalaya focused on the upliftment of the tribal students. Balmer Lawrie sponsored Rs. 10 lakhs in the current financial year for these vidyalayas catering to the tribal populace. 1200 primary school children were benefitted. Apart from basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic, the school curriculum covers general knowledge, basic science, health and hygiene awareness, moral education, local sports, yoga, crafts, culture and functional digital knowledge.

Healthcare

  • HelpAge India - Balmer Lawrie sponsors the running of the Mobile Health Van by HelpAge India at Manali, Chennai. The van providing medical care, catering to 12,000+ patients annually especially elderly people
  • Balmer Lawrie sponsored an ambulance for the Nimbark Math Seva Samiti in Purba Midnapore, West Bengal, providing critical healthcare support to over 1,400 patients annually.
  • Medical Camps: Kartavya Janhit Foundation, a partner NGO of Balmer Lawrie, conducted two Cancer Detection Camps at prominent locations in Delhi. More than 200 individuals benefited from the essential screening services, contributing to the overall health awareness initiative. These community members demonstrated a keen interest in prioritising their health through comprehensive cancer screening.
  • Mental Health Foundation of India - The Mental Health Foundation (India) a not-for-profit organization has been successfully running its flagship tele-mental mental health care service using the MiHOPE platform at one of its in center in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh. The activities at this center are funded by Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. A total of 7 medical professionals are actively engaged in providing remote consultations using the MiHOPE platform. Balmer Lawrie contributed 8.80lakhs to The Mental Health Foundation
  • Calcutta Rescue: Balmer Lawrie sponsored the running of street medicine mobile clinics by Calcutta Rescue for the slum community of Paharpur, Kolkata. The doctors and the healthcare team visit the slum and street dwellers on regular basis. The clinics are run from the back of mobile vans, which have basic medical equipment and stock of drugs for common ailments. This project has received great recognition for its contribution to the immunisation program and medicine supply to the registered patients.
  • Oxygen Plant : In view of the COVID-19 pandemic and to meet the emergency supply of oxygen, Balmer Lawrie has spent Rs.629.23 lakhs towards PSA oxygen plants in five Government hospitals in Karnataka and Rs.68.35 lakhs towards procurement of Oxygen Concentrators and Oxygen Cylinders which are used by patients from poor families residing in areas surrounding our plants / offices.

Environment:

  • Afforestation Projects: Balmer Lawrie has been constantly engaging in tree plantation drives across various regions of the country to combat deforestation and promote environmental sustainability.

Community Development:

  • Skill Development: As part of the Government of India’s Skill India initiative, Skill Development Institutes (SDI) have been set up at various places in the country by the member companies of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), Government of India. As a member company of the MoPNG, Balmer Lawrie contributed Rs 65 Lakhs in the last financial year for the SDIs at Ahmedabad, Raebareli, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Kochi and Bhubaneswar as per the funding module set by the MoPNG. These skill development programs are aimed at improving employability and entrepreneurship among the youth and women in rural areas.
  • Women Livelihood Projects: The Company executed impactful projects aimed at enhancing livelihood and empowering women in Taloja (Maharashtra) and Silvassa (Dadra and Nagar Haveli). These projects, spearheaded by women social entrepreneurs, demonstrated significant success in training women in bakery, stitching / tailoring and establishing poultry farms, which subsequently boosted their income generation. A total number of 75 women benefitted from these initiatives.

Sanitation and Cleanliness:

  • Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) is a flagship initiative launched by the Government of India in 2014 to promote cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene across the country. Balmer Lawrie has taken forward the campaign and every year activities are being undertaken in our peripheral areas.
  • Balmer Lawrie is funding the project Capacity Building of Adolescent Girls for schoolgirls of Panvel Tahasil (Ashram School) on issue of Menstrual Health and Hygiene Awareness and has sanctioned Rs.7 lakhs to provide financial assistance to Saksham Foundation, Panvel – the implementation partner. Under this project awareness sessions are being organised on capacity building of adolescent girls on issue of menstrual hygiene, personal hygiene, puberty, mental and physical (nutritional) health. Supplement diet is also being provided to 150 girls students for three months. Activities are also being conducted which will help parents and teachers of the adolescent girls to understand the importance of the menstrual and personal hygiene.
  • A year-long ‘Health and Hygiene’ project was undertaken in Silvassa under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The project scope included 6 primary schools with 872 children in Sayli, 4 schools with 264 children in Khadoli and 17 Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) centres covering 590 children in Khadoli. Balmer Lawrie conducted swachhata awareness programs in Government schools in Silvassa and Taloja.
  • Swachhata Pakhwada - Balmer Lawrie observed the Swachhata Pakhwada from July 1 - 15, 2024 across all the units and establishments. A host of activities and initiatives were taken up during the fortnight to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness and its positive impact on the health and overall wellbeing. The fortnight started with employees taking the Swachhata pledge. Under the initiative ‘Ek ped Maa Ke Naam’, tree plantation drive was carried out across regions with strong participation from the local community. Saplings were also distributed to employees at the Head Office. Awareness drive on maintaining proper health and hygiene involving school children was organised in Silvassa and Chennai. Sanitisation kits and dustbins were distributed to the students at Primary School in Andherpada at Sayli, Silvassa encouraging them to adopt clean and healthy habits. To amplify the message, a social media campaign #SwachhtaPeZorSwasthtaKiOre was launched during the Swachhata Pakhwada.
